DIY: Change your desktop wallpaper

By on February 5, 2017

Wallpaper isn’t just for walls — it’s also for your computer desktop and your cellphone’s start screen.
The digital background image on your electronic device is called wallpaper because it serves the same purpose as traditional wallpaper. It decorates a space that otherwise would be blank and boring. You’ll see the wallpaper when your computer starts up or when no programs are active.
It’s fun to personalize your devices with digial images that speak to you.

Choose a photograph of your favorite animal (these images from support.microsoft.com):

Swan

Green sea turtles

Flamingo

Pick an picture of something you would like to see or do (these images from support.microsoft.com):

Fierce Dragon

Colorful takeoff

Lightning storm

Tropical beach

Put on a pretty pattern (these Lilly Pulitzer patterns from canadianprep.blogspot.com:

Lilly Pulitzer She She Shells

Lilly Pulitzer Hearts Flutter

Lilly Pulitzer Lilet

Or select words that inspire or encourage you (these images and the photo at the top of the post from www.designlovefest.com):

Dream big

Start somewhere

Make today count

It’s so easy to change your electronic wallpaper that you can install a new image every day, if you’d like. You can select one of your personal digital photographs or search “desktop wallpaper” images to find art you like.
Then download the image to your computer (or drag the image to your desktop). Right-click on the photo icon you want and select “set as background” from the drop-down menu. (For some computer programs, you may need to select System Preference and then Desktop/Screensaver or Background).
Voila — the image is now your wallpaper.
