Local restaurant: The Seahorse

By on June 20, 2017

You’d expect a restaurant named The Seahorse to specialize in surf and turf, and it does.
The restaurant in Greenville’s medical district serves steaks and a wide variety of seafood, but it’s also known for its express lunch hot food bar, salad bar and weekend breakfast bar.
Danny Smith opened The Seahorse restaurant in late 2010 at 2301 Stantonsburg Road, across from Vidant Medical Center. Smith previously owned Carolina Café in Bethel.
Grilled entrees include a 13-ounce marinated hand-cut rib-eye steak, beef tips, Angus burger, Texas-style barbecue beef brisket, barbecued chicken and pork tenderloin.
Prime rib is served each Saturday from 5 p.m. until it’s sold out.
Seafood selections include shrimp, fried oysters, stuffed flounder, Alaskan Snow Crab legs, Lowcountry Shrimp and Grits, sea scallops and stuffed crab.
The dinner menu also includes hand-chopped pork barbecue, pork tenderloin and gravy and, on Wednesdays only, baby back ribs ($11.99 for a half rack and $15 for a full rack).
An express salad and lunch hot bar is offered from 11 a.m.2 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays, featuring a daily main dish such as chicken and pastry, meatloaf, fried chicken or hamburger steak and a minimum of six vegetables.
Sandwiches include a 6-ounce cheeseburger, homemade chicken salad, barbecue sandwich, flounder sandwich and shrimp burger.
Side items include mashed potatoes, homemade potato salad, homemade slaw, green beans, apple sauce, cabbage, fried okra, onion rings and collards.
Make sure to save room for a huge slice of an old-fashioned homemade cake, made on the premises. In addition to a specialty cake of the month, selections may include pineapple, caramel, Red Velvet, strawberry and chocolate.
Iced tea, coffee, Pepsi products, beer and wine also are served.
Breakfast is served daily beginning at 7:30 a.m. Fare includes omelets, pancakes, hash browns, French toast, cheese biscuits, country ham and eggs cooked to order.
The breakfast buffet is served from 8-10 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The buffet features scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage gravy, hash browns, grits, fruit, bacon, sausage links and biscuits.
The Seahorse has an outdoor patio and a private banquet room.
Hours are 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays and 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Reservations are accepted. Call 758-6958.
